A motive is an impulse that causes a person to act. Motivation is an internal process that makes a person move toward a goal.Drivers of human behavior related to the intrinsic nature of the work, but not necessarily to the surrounding circumstances or environment. Motivating factors include achievement, advancement, autonomy, personal growth, recognition, responsibility, and the work itself.

Three key elements of motivation are:

  1. Direction
  2. Intensity
  3. Persistence
